Higher 1 (Cycling)

This class is taught by:

Jen Meinen

I have been a fitness instructor for 5 years, teaching Spin, TRX, and yoga around the New Orleans community. I ran my first 5K in 2003, and since then, have continued to grow as an athlete and instructor, outside of my career in medical device clinical research. I have competed in half ironman and half marathon races all over the country, while expanding my passion for cycling, swimming, and running, but also balancing my training with regular classes in yoga and CrossFit. I recently completed the Free to Be Empowered 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program with a Baptiste affiliated studio in New Orleans, and have truly embraced the changes in myself through this work. This experience has inspired my classes in the cycling room and yoga studio, where I am able to give more through my words and experiences than ever before. I enjoy inspiring my indoor cycling rides and yoga practice with my experiences and my music, while also challenging my students to explore opportunities to grow both in their commitment to fitness and motivation to achieve their individual goals.

Rebecca Lawler

Rebecca Lawler is from McComb, Mississippi. As a Junior Tennis player Rebecca was a high school All American and earned a full scholarship in tennis to the University of Mississippi. As an elite athlete, she became a USPTA Pro 1 Elite Professional. However, in 2011, a crippling shoulder injury ended her tennis career and Rebecca discovered her love of indoor cycling and began teaching at Body Cycle Studio in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Rebecca found an ability to touch the lives of others through her adversity, using the music in her classes to impact and inspire riders to overcome the setbacks of life they will face every day. Rebecca felt the NOLA love as she recovered from her shoulder injury with family in New Orleans and she and her husband Chad are eager to give back to the community they love.

Collin Caranna

Kenyan Collin Caranna here. I teach a high intensity Higher 1 class at HP. When not sweating at HP I am almost always found running down St. Chuck and along the river downtown. I am going to change the world with a smile. It's an action I find to be most meaningful when interacting with others. Its is so simple!

Whitney Mitchell

Whitney, a Staten Island, New York native, is a former LSU Track & Field Tiger. Having spent more than 10 years as a mid-distance runner, Whitney has transition to long distance road races and maintains her aerobic capacity on the higherpower cycle bikes. Whitney is inspired to create equity and access to premiere forms of fitness - allowing clients to find joy, purpose and intention in their exercise while feeling apart of a warm, welcoming community. Whitney's class is high energy and has a special love for resistance and hill climbing.

Jenni Duplantis

I grew up in Mandeville, LA and love it dearly, but adopted this absurd, brash, and beautiful city as my own in 2012. I was a competitive dancer for most of my life, but in college, I found out quickly that that french-fries and late nights were catching up to me. So, I turned to running, dropped 25 lbs, and even took a marathon training class while in graduate school at LSU. Running was my first love and I’ve been lucky enough to complete 9 marathons since 2009. In 2010, I decided to attempt my first triathlon with 12 of my closest Varsity Sports co-workers. Another finish line love story transpired and I’ve never looked back. Cycling has been a challenge, but indoor cycling has helped me find a love for the bike. I love to sweat, and I love to jam out to music- indoor cycling lets me do both! Come to my class if you are looking for a dance part/ workout that will help you forget about how hard you are working!

Maddie Donelon

People say "find what it is you love and find a way to make a living out of it .." well that's exactly how I came into the fitness world. I love working out, having fun, and helping people so what better way to do all this then become a trainer! I'm a Nola girl born and raised, and I love to enjoy everything my city has to offer; but I balance it out with having a work hard, play hard attitude! I have two girls, Amelia and Andie, who bring so much joy to my life, and I love being able to set a good example for them on how to be a strong woman mentally and physically and to enjoy life to the fullest! My goal is to have everyone working out so they can see their full potential and how awesome they can feel. I think it's a shame to go through life and never know this feeling!

Heather Breerwood

Heather is a Georgia native and recent MBA grad who came to New Orleans twelve years ago. Heather discovered cycling when trying to lose weight for her wedding and never looked back. When she's not cycling, her favorite ways to sweat are yoga, TRX, and running with her dog on the lakefront. Heather will change the world by helping others unlock their potential inside and outside of the studio.

Michelle Gaubert

I'm Michelle and I teach the Higher (1) cycling here at Higher Power! I graduated from Centenary College with a Biology degree in 2014. I am an ex-collegiate swimmer and a fitness lover! I was bored when I finished my last swim season so I started riding a aluminum road bike from 1982 (literally). I quickly fell in love with cycling (and quickly updated my bike). My love for the road is what has brought me to Higher Power! I had a willingness to learn and a desire to become part of something more, something where I can share my knowledge and talents with others. When I can, I love to get outdoors on the open roads, but I've also fallen in love with the high-energy thrill that comes with the atmosphere of an indoor cycling class.
Higher1 is a 45 minute high-energy cycling experience with fun music, positive reinforcement, and a great way to get that quick sweat, on our state of the art bikes. This class is for all levels.
